Apify TikTok Scraper alternative: ScrapingBot vs Apify

Apify runs ready-made TikTok scrapers as jobs and bills per result. ScrapingBot is a plain API that answers each call in seconds and bills per call. Here is what that means for cost, control and code.

Searches for an "Apify TikTok scraper alternative" usually come from one of two places: a bill that grew with the number of videos, or a pipeline that wants a synchronous API instead of actor runs. Apify is a strong platform, so it is worth being precise about where each approach wins.

How we compared

ScrapingBot is our product. Apify facts come from Apify pricing, the store pages for TikTok Scraper and TikTok Sound Scraper, the actors' public pricing and input schemas from the Apify API, the run-sync API docs and the MCP docs, checked in October 2026.

The short version

Pick ScrapingBot if

Cost scales with results in your workload: a ScrapingBot call returns a whole page of videos for 1 credit.
You want synchronous calls and your own cursor loop, with no actor runs, datasets or 300-second limits.
You need Instagram, Google, Amazon or web pages on the same key and balance.

Pick Apify if

You want no code: schedule a scraper in the console and export the dataset.
You need video downloads, transcripts or AI summaries as add-ons, or one of thousands of other ready-made scrapers.
You want Apify's storage, webhooks and integrations rather than running your own scheduler and database.

Apify's prices are the actors' pay-per-event rates for each plan tier (Starter maps to Apify's Bronze tier, Scale to Silver, Business to Gold). The TikTok Scraper also charges $0.001 per run start.

What 1,000 videos actually cost

The units are different, so compare a concrete job: the first 1,000 videos that use a sound.

  • Apify Sound Scraper on the Starter plan: 1,000 results at $4.00 per 1,000 = $4.00, drawn from the $19 of monthly usage the plan includes.
  • ScrapingBot on Starter: TikTok returns around 10 videos per page, so about 100 calls = 100 credits. At $49.99 for 275,000 credits that is about $0.02. Page sizes vary, so budget a little more.

The same logic applies to creator feeds through /user/posts. Single-item lookups narrow the gap: one profile is one ScrapingBot call ($0.00018 on Starter) against one Apify profile result ($0.002 on Starter with the Profile Scraper). At small volumes, Apify's free $5 a month can cover a project outright; ScrapingBot's free 100 credits are a one-time test.

Jobs vs calls

An actor is a job: you send an input such as {"musics": [...], "resultsPerPage": 100}, it runs, and you read a dataset. That is convenient when you want 100 results and don't care how they are fetched. It is less convenient when your code wants to stop as soon as it reaches videos it has already seen, or to resume from a known position tomorrow.

ScrapingBot gives you the cursor. Each call returns one page plus cursor and hasMore, so you decide when to stop, can save the cursor and resume, and pay only for the pages you fetched. You also own scheduling and storage, which Apify does for you.

Migrating from the Apify TikTok Sound Scraper

On Apify, the run-sync endpoint starts the actor and returns its dataset in one request:

# Before: Apify TikTok Sound Scraper (run-sync)
import requests

res = requests.post(
    "https://api.apify.com/v2/acts/clockworks~tiktok-sound-scraper/run-sync-get-dataset-items",
    headers={"Authorization": f"Bearer {APIFY_TOKEN}"},
    json={"musics": ["https://www.tiktok.com/music/original-sound-7682907287056337667"],
          "resultsPerPage": 100},
    timeout=320,
)
videos = res.json() # list of dataset items

On ScrapingBot you page through the same sound yourself and stop when you have enough:

# After: ScrapingBot
import requests

API = "https://scrapingbot.io/api/v1/tiktok"
HEADERS = {"x-api-key": SCRAPINGBOT_KEY}

videos, cursor = {}, None
while len(videos) < 100:
    params = {"music_id": "7682907287056337667", "count": 30}
    if cursor is not None:
        params["cursor"] = cursor
    data = requests.post(API, headers=HEADERS, timeout=60,
                         json={"endpoint": "/music/posts", "params": params}).json()["data"]
    for v in data["videos"]:
        videos.setdefault(v["video_id"], v)
    if not data["hasMore"]:
        break
    cursor = data["cursor"]

Each ScrapingBot video carries video_id, title, play_count, digg_count, comment_count, create_time, a play URL and author; map them to the dataset fields your code reads today. The sound export guide adds retries and CSV output, and the Node.js tracker covers the scheduling and storage Apify would otherwise do for you.

Common questions

How much does the Apify TikTok Scraper cost?

Clockworks' TikTok Scraper on Apify charges per result: $3.70 per 1,000 on the free plan, $3.00 on Starter, $2.30 on Scale and $1.70 on Business, plus a small per-run fee and extra charges for add-ons such as comments or downloads. The TikTok Sound Scraper is $5.00 per 1,000 videos on the free plan and $4.00 on Starter. Checked October 2026.

Is ScrapingBot cheaper than Apify for TikTok?

For most jobs, yes, but the units differ. Apify charges per result (one video, one profile, one comment). ScrapingBot charges 1 credit per call, and a list call returns a page of results, usually around 10 videos. 1,000 videos using a sound is about 100 calls: 100 credits, roughly 2 cents on Starter, against $4.00 with the Apify Sound Scraper on Apify Starter.

Is there a TikTok sound scraper on Apify?

Yes. clockworks/tiktok-sound-scraper takes sound URLs in a musics input and returns the videos that use them. On ScrapingBot the equivalent is the /music/posts endpoint, paged with a cursor.

What does Apify do that ScrapingBot doesn't?

A lot: thousands of ready-made scrapers, cron schedules, hosted datasets and storage, webhooks and integrations, video downloads, transcripts and AI summaries for TikTok, and a no-code console. ScrapingBot is a request-response API only; you schedule and store on your side.

Does Apify have an MCP server?

Yes, at mcp.apify.com, which lets an agent search and run actors. ScrapingBot hosts one at scrapingbot.io/api/mcp whose 23 tools map directly to its TikTok, Instagram, Google, Amazon and website endpoints.

Can I call Apify synchronously like an API?

Yes: the run-sync-get-dataset-items endpoint starts an actor and returns its results in one request, but a run longer than 300 seconds returns a 408 and you fall back to polling. ScrapingBot calls return in seconds and time out after 30 seconds for TikTok.
